Indiana Dunes State Park

Our friends Jerry and Beth from Cedar Key had told us about Indiana Dunes State Park and they highly recommended it.

One of the things that I wanted to do was the “3 Dune Challenge”.  You hiked the 3 tallest dunes in the park.  Hiking in sand is much different than hiking in the woods with rock or dirt as the ground surface!
It started out fine...

and quickly inclined!
We had beautiful views

And could even see Chicago in the distance (look hard!)

We "bagged" peaks

If you could call 184 ft a peak!

We climbed a gazillion steps
To our last "peak" at 192 feet!
It was a fun way to spend the morning.

We checked out the beach of Lake Michigan…

And it really looked like any other beach….until this...

What?!  Industry + beach = not good

It is a very popular beach.
It is a wonderful place to ride bikes with miles and miles of paved trails.  We enjoyed exploring the park by pedaling.    And sometimes, you have the weirdest neighbors…

A naked, headless mannequin?  It never came off of the car

Time to head further east!!
