Moving on....a bit north

Last Wednesday, we moved to the Moosehead Lake Region of Maine.  The drive was uneventful and we got our first glimpse of signs warning us of moose in the area.

Unlike our friends Rod and Tammy (who we were meeting at this stop!), we did not see any moose on the way to the campground.  Gin, Syl, and hitchhiker Pam arrived shortly after we did and they didn't see any on their way up either. After a dinner at a local cafe, we went out moose hunting!  We were told of some areas that people have seen moose and went for a drive.
Sign at the Maine DOT facility - no moose there!
No moose were seen here at this beautiful bog.
However....with an eagle eye, Tammy saw something off the road in a semi-wooded area.  Rod turned the car around and what did we see.....
Momma Moose!  Nancy - this one is for you!!
Rod said that he saw a baby with her but no one else saw it.  ;-)  Regardless, as soon as she heard us, she took off running.  Moose don't have good eyesight but they can hear very well and I think we were a bit too loud.

It was a very nice first night at Moosehead Lake!  I can't wait to see if we can see more moose!

  2. It is so incredible to see one in the wild. My youngest son and I took a trip up north years ago, and got to see a mama and her baby feeding, right at dusk. Wonderful!

  3. Nice shot of the moose. They may out number people 3 to 1 here, but trees out number them 3,000,000 to 1!
